Billion launches "belt and braces" broadband wireless router

Billion Electric Co is a Taiwanese netwworking devices manufacturer. Billion entered the UK marketplace 3 years ago with their innovative MI-Fi routers that translated Cellular broadband to Wi-FI. with their wide range of 3G routers. They now produce a wide range of 3G routers for domestic and commercial applications.

BiPac 7800GZTheir latest offering is the Bi aimed at users who have difficulties sustaining a decent broadband connection. The BiPac 7800GZ is a three-way router which utilises 3G or DSL as its access, and Wi-FI for its PC connections around the house or small office.

The 3G or DSL requires a HSPDA sim in order to access the broadband network(s). The company spiel is that this device has a Triple Wan interface, meaning it can make three different connections for your broadband - 3G, ADSL2+ and a physical connection via one of its ethernet ports. If the signal is dropped because one of these connections fails, the BiPac 7800GZ should be able to recover a connection. This makes it useful for critical applications.

The router has four ethernet ports and can be set up to immediately switch broadband sources the moment a connection is lost. In this event the network administrator can also be notified of the action taken, automatically, by email.

The broadband signal is recieved/transmitted via two decent, detachable 3G antennas. So a decent signal is picked up pretty much anywhere within range (No matchstick sized dongle antennas here!) .

The ADSL chip comes from Broadcom and the mobile broadband performance is helped along with 2 external detachable 3G antennas, which means you get a signal just about anywhere, instead of being limited to the tiny antennas inside 3G USB sticks and dongles.

The BiPAc 7800GZ:

-comes with a business-class firewall

-supports IPSec VPN capability

-has built-in Quality of Service (QoS) for bandwidth management and traffic prioritization.

-comes with a dedicated 3G usage tools so you can track 3G usage to help manage a subscription.

-can be set up to disconnect from 3G at a pre-determined threshold to avoid those costly overruns.

-The device supports HSPDA up to 7.2 Mbps and ADSL2+ speeds up to 24 Mbps, and 54 Mbps Wireless.

Edward Kung, UK Managing Director of Billion says: "The 7800GZ is a fantastic addition to Billion's already impressive portfolio of business routers. The embedded SIM feature is a response to customer demand for a more resilient 3G router solution, but at a competitive price. The 7800GZ gives enterprise-level performance at a fraction of the cost of a similarly spec'd Sarian or Cisco product."

Tesco Phones

Tesco and international telecoms company Cable and Wireless have agreed on a deal that will allow Tesco to make further headway into the technology niche.

This news means that Tesco will soon be offering their own land-line home telephone services and broadband internet - putting them in direct competition with big telecoms hitters like Virgin Media and TalkTalk.

It is thought Tesco are pushing hard into the technology niche because there are much greater profits to be gained there than in selling groceries. Once Tesco reaches its target of 500 stores containing phone shops by the end of 2010, telecoms chief Lance Batchelor predicts the potential extra profits for Tesco will be around £200 million per year.
