O2 will offer to unlock their customers' iPhones beginning Tuesday, November 10. This offer extends to pay-as-you-go customers as well as customers with monthly prepaid plans.
Once their phones are unlocked, customers will be able to use them on any compatible network. Customers with monthly plans will be able to move their phones to other network whenever they choose; however, they will be required to fulfil the remainder of their O2 contracts. This compensates for handset subsidies that Orange offers the customer when they purchase the phone. Those customers with pay-as-you-go plans will be able to have their phones unlocked 12 months after they purchase them, if they pay a £15 one-time fee. If you would like O2 to unlock your iPhone, you must fill out an online form. The process can take up to 14 days. O2's offer comes just as Orange, a rival carrier, begins selling their iPhone in the UK.
